Covenant (pact, treaty, agreement, alliance) is a focus point and unifying
theme in the Bible. One biblical scholar has said, "God's grace in relating to
his people by initiating covenants with them is a major theme of the Bible."
Covenants began with God's covenants with people and the nation Israel.
The covenants found their final fulfillment in the new covenant in Jesus
Christ. The Mosaic Community is a covenant community.
To this day, many traditional churches have posted copies of the Church
Covenant on walls, printed it in their founding documents, and even in some
of their songbooks (called hymnals). While this covenant is general in terms,
Mosaic's covenant specifically relates to our local community of faith. We
believe a congregational covenant offers and provides:
We do not encourage or recruit members from other local churches.
Members of other local churches are encouraged to speak to their current
church leadership before joining Mosaic.
l A clear understanding of mission, vision, beliefs and core values.
l Accountability for leadership and members. To be accountable to
God, the Mosaic community, each other, the greater faith community
and world.
l A clear understanding of community expectations, benefits and
opportunities.
l Focus and direction to prevent drifting and division over, or from
our stated mission, vision, beliefs and values.
l An unquestionable commitment to be part of God's work through
the Mosaic Community.
