25:40 Feeding Ministry

This ministry is rooted in Jesus admonition
to care for the "least of these" in
Matthew 25:40. Each month MCF
volunteers prepare and serve a meal
for the homeless in Greenville. We
partner with Tom Cassell's street ministry.
If you would be interested in helping
prepare food, or serving please
contact Lynn O'Connell at
lynnstegall@gmail.com. We serve on
the last Tuesday of each month.
Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

Lent Begins...
Student Ministry

We are continuing through the series 'Do Hard Things' each
Thursday night at 6pm! Come join us as we worship, teach, and
fellowship.

Each week, a different student will be sharing a devotion. We will
also discuss the material in the book, as well as have a challenging
'expectation' for that week. Don't miss what God may have for you
as a STUDENT! See Dan Carroll for more details.

Genesis Course

Before becoming a member of MCF, we
require completion of our 6-session
Genesis Course that goes into detail
who we are, what we believe, and
what we expect as a church body. We
have many who have been visiting with
us for a while and have not taken this
course. We encourage you to make this
a priority. The completion of the Genesis
Course is required for membership, but
completion of the course does not
obligate you to join. Please see Pastor
Monty or Dan if you are interested.
Lent: A Season of Repentance, Reflection and Preparation

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17th. Early Christians began the
practice as a way of preparing for Holy Week and Easter. Lent is the 46 days
from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday. However, you don't count the
Sunday's during this period because it was considered inappropriate to fast on
the Lord's Day, so each Sunday during Lent is considered a "mini-Easter" making
Lent 40 days. The 40 days is based on the 40 days of fasting Jesus spent in the
wilderness in preparation for His public ministry on earth.

Lent is a time for Christ-followers to focus on their spiritual walk. During Lent,
Christ-followers practice self-denial, fasting, sacrifice, meditation and the study
of God's Word. It is a season of spiritual growth and maturity. As we progress
toward Christ we move away from self-reliance and personal achievement. It's
why Christ-followers fast, or practice self-denial during Lent. Some give up
sweets, or caffeine, while others deny themselves television, movies, Facebook
or other computer "play time". As we move closer to God, we recognize that
we are totally and completely dependent upon the completed work of Christ
through His Passion and resurrection.

One of the best Scriptures to mark the Lenten journey is
Hebrews 12:1-3

Therefore since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us
also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on
Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand
of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by
sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH WE CONTINUE TO TRAVEL...
the Lenten Road to Easter. Since Ash Wednesday in mid February we have
been answering the call to self-denial, sacrifice, repentance and reflection.

As we prepare for the culmination of Lent with Resurrection Sunday we must
take personal stock of where we are with Christ. Through prayer and fasting
we must ask ourselves how much closer are we to following Him? His actions?
His Word? Are we becoming more like Him? Yes we give up things for Lent to
conform to Christ, but we should also add, or pursue others in order to become
more like Him.

Fred Lyon said, “Lent isn’t so much a matter of what we give up for Jesus, but a
matter of discerning how to give ourselves over to Jesus.” What are we doing
to pursue righteousness? How are we living to make His kingdom a reality to our
culture?

Our current teaching series will take us right up to Easter. It’s entitled, “The
Lenten Road”. Here’s where we will be traveling in the weeks ahead as we
study scriptures from the Common Lectionary.
